According to the weather forecast, today might have been the last day of this elongated summer. So the weather has been wonderful and everything should be great, but I'm feeling kind of crappy for no particular reason. I just don't feel like drawing things. I decide I will draw in the morning, and then waste my time in many ways all day and end up not even touching my tablet by the end of the day.
I've been watching a lot of anime and reading a lot of manga lately (I read like 15 volumes during last weekend and Monday). I know I should be doing better things, but my head gets filled of dark unnecessary thoughts otherwise. I wrote a few things about my impressions of the series I watched, but I don't wanna post it here now.
Have some shitty sketches instead, WARNING: PH SPOILERS!
Gil. I put this on my Pandora Hearts meme, but I actually drew this sketch separately. I attempted to draw many things inspired by chapter 65, but they sucked.
Proof that I still fail at drawing Jack. WhyareyousohardtodrawJack OTL
Glen + bitty Gil. Actually, I kinda like this one, though Gil didn't turn out small enough, lol. And it's anime!Glen. XD His outfit looks a bit different in the manga, but I like how they added those swirly pattern things on it in the anime artbook concepts. I might change it if I finish this, but I still like this design better. XD;
Aaand, not my drawing, but I collected a few scenes from the PH manga where Vincent uses his left hand to convince people who claim he's right-handed, cuz the anime illustrators screwed up on one pic. (Btw, Mochizuki herself screwed it up at one scene, when Gil takes the gun from Vincent in chapter 59, it's like - Vince aims with his left, then Gil grabs his RIGHT, then it's left again on the next panel. And I think Mochizuki must be right-handed, cuz she prefers to draw characters facing left, lolz.)
So, this is something that was drawn by my dear friend, KGX347 at deviantART. Her original.
I just asked her if I could colour it and she said yes. Then I decided to redo the ENTIRE lineart digitally to practice digital inking (cuz I suck at it). It took me a few days, but I'm finally done with the inking. Hopefully, I'll start colouring it tomorrow. 8D
I heard today that xxxHolic was finished, so I went to read the last 3 chapters. The ending was kind of unsatisfying, though I kinda stopped liking this series when TRC ended. I think they should have ended it just with Watanuki inheriting the store and waiting for Yuuko. This last part was totally boring in my opinion. It made me like the whole series less. :\
I also finished Vampire Game a few days ago. It was a pretty good series. Nothing too epic, but it was pretty cute. I didn't like:
- Illsaide. Seriously, that kid totally annoyed me. He was more powerful than almost everyone else, yet he was a stupid brainless douchebag, who never knew what he really wanted and kept hesitating and tinkering away throughout the whole story. Still, a lot of people loved him for some reason. I rarely dislike characters, but I really didn't like him. >:[
- My favourite character died. (Although this can be a positive thing as well, I love drama.)
- However, Illsaide didn't die. XD;;;;;
- The art. It was okay and shoujo-y, but I didn't like the proportions and the way the characters' mouths were drawn on their faces. When their mouths were open, I kept thinking that it looked off, I don't know why.
- Duzell was a vampire, right? Then why didn't he need to suck blood? (Or maybe he did, but the author thought that mentioning it wasn't important.)
- Everyone fell in love with everyone. That's why I don't like shoujo...
- Even the fairly intelligent characters did some really stupid things sometimes. Also, Duzell was ridiculously weak and stupid for a vampire king. Although they do mention this a couple of times. XD
- I kept thinking that the author was trying really hard to force some shounen-ai into the story, but it came out awkward at times. I liked:
- The story was enjoyable and had some relatively good twists.
- I liked the humorous stuff most of the time.
- The characters were quite likeable, I guess. Although I wasn't crazy about anyone.
- The ending was pretty good, although I did feel like the author was rushing a bit and didn't explain some things in the last two volumes. Plus you could see it coming after reading the very first volume (or maybe first two volumes).
Oh, and today, I searched for some more Sound Horizon things and found this Dream Port single (?), that is a collaboration work between Revo and one of my fave Japanese "anime composers", Yuki Kajiura. 8D I'm currently obsessed with the 2nd song from it, it has practically the same melody as the first song, but this one is typically Yuki Kajiura-ish, it could be a song from the Pandora Hearts or Tsubasa Chronicles OSTs.
Super quick doodles. I keep hearing that I should use photos as references, but it's really hard to find good photos of people in dynamic poses like these. However, I read mangas. 8D And series like the korean manga (manhwa) Threads of Time are full of awesome dynamic fight scenes. I think the proportions are really good in this series and the style is nice. So yeah, these were all referenced on panels from this manhwa. I drew them all in a few seconds/minutes. (Btw, I really like those thick eyebrows manhwakas tend to draw in some Korean series. XDD)
Not many people would think, but I'm actually quite a fan of seinen mangas. Threads of Time is the first historical seinen I've read by a female mangaka. For some reason, I had a feeling the author was female. Maybe because of the main guy's cuteness or because of the bare-chested bad guy. XD Unfortunately, the story is not that breathtakingly interesting or epic, but still pretty good. The big plot twist was pretty cool, although it didn't make much sense if you ask me. ^^;;; Anyway, I recommend this series if you aren't afraid of some cruel things like beheading innocent women and children or gang-raping a comatose woman.
I haven't been posting sketches here, because last week, my Pandora Hearts obsession got renewed again and I did a little daily sketch series that I posted on my deviantART account. I really enjoyed doing it and I realized I didn't draw Gil, so I made a bonus sketch yesterday. I'm not sure whether to post it or not, though. I think his arms look strange. I recorded the drawing process, though. I might make a new drawing video...
By the way, I've been into Era music lately. I discovered this group when I was searching for some Vangelis songs. I have heard the song "Ameno" before, but I didn't like it back then. Now I do. 8D I also love Enigma and Era's songs are somewhat similar.
I'm reading the manga series "Vampire Game". I still don't like the art and the story seems somewhat silly so far. Nothing can come close to Pandora Hearts right now, hehe...
